If you’re looking for new ways to “go green” by recycling, below is a list of ways you can recycle. You’re probably familiar with some of these methods, but do you know them all?
How many ways can you recycle?
- Recycle organic waste
You may already have a green recycling bin or organic waste collection at your home or workplace. Composting is a great way to recycle nutrients from organic trash for plants. Click here for more information on what green waste is and where it goes.
- Recycle water
a long-term investment that will save your water bill. While this isn’t for everyone, you can reconfigure your water pipes in a way that allows you to recycle bath water or sink water for flushing the toilet or watering your plants. (Hardcore recyclers will go the extra mile and water their gardens that are growing in composted green waste.)
- Recycle electronics
e-waste is a growing problem that can be addressed by recycling them in a commercial recycling bin or facility designed for e-waste. Click here if you need help identifying what e-waste is.
- Paper and cardboard recycling
This is a popular one for office recycling programs if you’re looking for tips on how to recycle cardboard at your facility click here. Most paper is recyclable and can be diverted from landfills easily.
- Plastic recycling
A confusing material to recycle for most. That’s because only a handful of plastics are actually recyclable. Look for the number 1 or 2 on your plastic waste to identify an easily recyclable plastic material. (Did you know CleanRiver commercial recycling bins are made out of recycled HDPE?)
- Metal recycling
If you haven’t already read the best items to recycle for money blog here, you should know that recycling metal can actually be a very lucrative business. If you don’t have a recycling program set up for metal waste yet… we highly recommend you do so because the recycling program practically pays for itself.
- ‘Upcycle’ diapers
disposable diapers are some of the most commonly stolen items, and also some of the worst pollutants found at your local landfill. Using a cloth diaper may seem outdated and somewhat closer to upcycling rather than recycling… but disposable diapers aren’t recyclable and more expensive than cloth.
The truth is… we could go on and on forever about how many different ways you can recycle, but the easiest way to measure the impact of your recycling efforts is by implementing a recycling program. If you have any more questions or suggestions about recycling programs… contact us here
