Do you have scrap metal laying around? Unsure what to do with it or where to bring it?  Oftentimes, these materials end up in the trash due to the lack of knowledge and resources available. Most individuals are unaware that scrap metals are typically recyclable. Here’s how to recycle scrap metal with minimal spending or no cost, in 3 easy steps:

1. Collect & Sort The Recyclable Metals

Identify which metals can and cannot be recycled. Almost all metals are recyclable, those of which includes:

  • Copper
  • Aluminum
  • Steel
  • Brass and bronzescrap metal recycling
  • Tin
  • Cast iron

Metals that are not recyclable:

  • Paint cans with any traces of paint
  • Any containing mercury
  • Motor oil cans
  • Pots and pans
  • Propane gas tanks
  • Radioactive metals

2. Bring the Metal to Scrap Yards

You can bring scrap metal to local scrap yards for cash payments to avoid clogging up landfills. The metal that can be recycled and re-purposed can be reused in a variety of different industries. For example, scrap metal and aluminum metals are used in construction for bridges and roads. Or it can be used in the transportation industry for building airplanes and cars.

3. Call Local Scrap Metal Buyers

Call local scrap metal buyers to see how much they will pay for the scrap metals you’ve collected. Non-ferrous metals are typically worth more than ferrous, yet you can make roughly $10 for every 100 pounds of metal. Simply Google, “local scrap metal buyers” and you’ll find a list of phone numbers to get in contact with.
