Does the thought of Valentine’s Day excite you, or stress you out? Regardless of how you feel about it, there are plenty of non-expensive ways to celebrate your love for whoever that special someone is in your life. If you’re looking for some fun activities to add a bit of romance, or an easy bonding experience… then you’ve come to the right place.

CleanRiver has over 30 years of experience providing recycling programs and recycling solutions to many different types of clients. So curating a few recyclable Valentine’s Day craft ideas for couples isn’t so far-fetched for us. You might be thinking, how can crafts be romantic? Well read on and you’ll hopefully be inspired to celebrate this romantic holiday in a more sustainable (and affordable!) way. We promise that you won’t regret trying out at least one of these fun activities.

1. Recycled Paper Bag Potted Plant Covers

Seeing as you’re reading a sustainability blog right now, it’s safe to assume you have at least 1 or 2 house plants sprucing up your living spaces. If you’re tired of looking at the same old boring pot that your plant is sitting in, why not decorate it with a recyclable material that can be removed and replaced with a new design whenever you like? Side note: do you think our mini bins could double as a plant pot?

2. Aluminum Can Earrings

Earrings are a common Valentine’s Day gift, but they can often be expensive. If you’re strapped for cash, or maybe want to give your partner a laugh (make sure they have a sense of humour about these sort of things first). Then why not show them how much you care by making them custom heart earrings out of those empty pop cans you have sitting in your commercial recycling bin?

3. Toilet Paper Roll Valentine Cracker

It wouldn’t be a recyclable craft blog without a toilet paper roll activity! Keep in mind all of these crafts are great for kids as well as couples so feel free to try these out with your whole family if you like.

4. Egg Carton Flower Bouquet

Real flower bouquets are temporary gifts that end up going in the green recycling/organic bins. Egg carton flower bouquets can last forever or can go in the blue commercial recycling bins afterward. What’s more sustainable?

We hope you enjoy trying or sharing these ideas with the people that meant the most to you. Happy Valentine’s Day!
